LES HORNBY (Manager)
Ex-Burton Albion, Yeovil Town, Rothwell and Desborough left-sided
player, Les joined Nick Ashby in the move to the Dog &
Duck from Raunds as his number two.
Les was originally on the books at Northampton Town before
going non-League with the likes of Desborough, Spalding United
and Rothwell Town, where he won a UCL championship winners`
medal and promotion to the Southern League.
He then had a short spell with Yeovil before moving on to
have stints at Rugby, Burton Albion, where he teamed up with
Nick Ashby, and Desborough.
MATTHEW GREEN
Matt was a long-serving player with Billy Jeffrey at Stamford
where he spent six seasons as a strong and physically-minded
midfield player.
Matt joined the Daniels from Cogenhoe United in 1999 and the
former Derby County trainee has also had spells with Rothwell
Town, Rushden & Diamonds and Irish club Larne before following
Jeffrey to Rugby Town in the summer of 2005. Switched to Wellingborough
in July 2006.
ADAM HANCOCK
Midfielder or forward who joined Wellingborough during the
summer of 2006, following the management team from Raunds
Town.
Had signed for the Shopmates from Ford Sports, where he had
been since the summer of 2003.
Previous
clubs include Bedford Town, Rushden & Diamonds, Stamford,
Kempston Rovers, Cogenhoe United and Cambridge City.
JON MITCHELL
It was quite a surprise when `Scouse` made the move from Southern
League Rothwell Town to the Doughboys during the 2005/06 season.
However, the Liverpudlian`s all-action performances in attack
soon made him the darling of the crowd and saw him finish
as leading scorer, despite only playing half the games.
Previously with Irchester United, it was one of Nick Ashby`s
main aims to keep Jon at the Dog & Duck when he took over
as manager.
JOHN HUGHES
Wellingborough-born, John is without doubt one of the best
goalkeepers in the league and rejoined the Doughboys upon
their return to senior football in 2005/06 after a lengthy
spell with Rothwell Town in the Southern League.
After making his debut for Rothwell in January 1999, he was
a virtual ever present. A former County cricketer with Northamptonshire,
he has also played for Raunds Town and Wisbech Town.
TIM WOODING
Tim signed for his hometown Wellingborough in the summer of
2006.
The
defender started his career with Norwich and Bournemouth before
helping Rushden & Diamonds to promotion to the Conference.
He then joined Cambridge City from Boston United during February
2001 and switched to Grantham Town in the summer of 2003 before
transferring to Rugby Town in November 2005 where he teamed-up
with Andy Peaks, Kevin Slinn and Matthew Green.
MARK HEWITT
Hard-working midfield terrier who joined Wellingborough in
the summer of 2006 from Ford Sports. Was previously with Cogenhoe
United and Northampton and attracted attention with his all-action
performances in recent seasons.
JED AINGE
Higham lad who joined the club in September 2006 after a brief
spell with the Lankies.
Played for manager Nick Ashby at Raunds Town and the midfielder
was originally with Northampton Town.
ALFIE TAYLOR
Pacy attacker who joined the Doughboys in the summer of 2006
after being released by neighbouring Kettering Town.
Soon became clear that, despite still being young enough for
the under-18s at the time, Alfie was going to play a part
in the first-team because of his pace and ability to score
goals.
LUKE PRITCHARD
Defender capable of playing at full back or centre half. He
joined Wellingborough in the summer of 2006, despite being
trailed by Southern League Bedworth United.
Rugby-based, Luke was previously with Daventry Town and became
a regular in the senior squad at the Dog & Duck after
immediately impressing on his debut.
DAVID
GLASS
Left-sided midfielder who joined the Doughboys in October
2006 from league rivals Desborough Town.
Corby-born, he came through the ranks at Corby Town and made
a number of first-team appearances before joining Ar Tarn
in 2004 where he became a popular and regular member of their
side.
STEVE BLACKWOOD
Originally signed in the summer of 2006, Steve returned to
the Doughboys in November of that year after taking a `short
sabbatical` from the game.
A former Aston Villa youngster who has tremendous ability
on the ball. Has also had spells with Cogenhoe United and
Long Buckby.
ROB GOULD
A tall, classy defender, Rob, 31, started out with Cogenhoe
United and had spells with Racing Club Warwick, Raunds Town
and Rothwell Town before moving to Ilkeston Town where he
was actually leading scorer in 2000/01, netting fourteen times.
A move to Tamworth followed in July 2001 and he then turned
out for St Albans City, Grantham Town, where he was signed
by Roger Ashby, and Brackley Town.
Kevin Wilson signed him for Kettering Town in March 2004 and,
like the Doughboys other big 2007 summer signing Scott Goodwin,
he was skipper at Rockingham Road until departing to Aylesbury
United in October 2005.
Rob is the son of former Aylesbury United boss Trevor and
nephew of ex-Wimbledon and ex-Wales boss Bobby.
RICHARD THOMPSON
Striker who notched 27 goals for Blackstones in the UCL Premier
Division in 2006/07 before joining Welligborough in the summer
of 2007.
Has previously had spells with Bourne Town, Harrowby United,
Stamford and even Stamford Rugby Club!
ADAM
RANDALL
Teenage defender or midfielder who joined the Doughboys in
the summer of 2006 after being released by Kettering Town.
A local lad who progressed through the reserve side to make
a number of first-team appearances towards the end of the
2006/07 season.
NICK
HARRISON
Aldwincle-based striker, still eligible for the under-18s, who
joined Wellingborough in the summer of 2006 from Raunds. Had
been given a handful of senior appearances for the Shopmates
by Nick Ashby in 2005/06 and has already made his senior bow
for the Doughboys.
JAMES
LISTER
Young left-sided defender or wing-back who joined Wellingborough
in the summer of 2006. Previously with Sileby Rangers, impressive
performances for the second string soon earned him a senior
call-up and he is now a first-team regular.
VINNY
SHRIEVES
Signed in September 2007 from Newport Pagnell Town, where he
was a prolific goalscorer, netting 55 goals in 76 matches for
the Swans. Has also appeared for Bedford Town, Padbury and Buckingham
Athletic.
DANIEL
GRAINGER
Signed in September 2007, after being released after a brief
spell with Corby Town. Despite being only 20, has had league
experience with Rushden and Diamonds. Now a permanent fixture
in the Doughboys' midfield.
